Privacy Policy
This policy sets out how New Life Community Care (NLCC) will comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APP’s) contained in Schedule 1 to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act). In particular, this policy demonstrates the New Life Community Care’s compliance with APP 1 – Open and transparent management of personal information.
The APPs are legally binding on the New Life Community Care and regulate the way in which organisations ang government agencies can collect, store, use and disclose personal information and how you can access and correct that information.

Principle 1: New Life Community Care (NLCC) will manage personal information in an open and transparent way.
Principle 2: NLCC will comply with the Australian Privacy Principles in the way it collects, hold, uses and discloses personal information.
Background
- As a DGR Charity & is governed by the ACNC, we must responsibly manage personal information, including through its compliance with the Australian Privacy Principles. NLCC is also guided by its values, including, but not limited to, fairness, integrity, accountability and respect. NLCC Privacy Policy therefore reflects both legal privacy requirements, as well as our core values. These two elements are captured in the two principles set out above. These principles underpin this policy and will guide the way that NLCC staff implement this policy.
About NLCC
- NLCC is regulated by the ACNC which is governed under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012 (Cth) (ACNC Act) as the independent national regulator of charities. You are able to view ACNC privacy policy on their website NLCC was established in 2009 with a vision to provide & support food relief, emergency accommodation to those within our community experiencing hardship and to create opportunities for new beginnings for those less fortunate.
NLCC information handling practices
NLCC will always endeavour to collect any required information from you directly, however, sometimes we may gather your information from another organisation when redeeming a voucher from them.
In general, the personal information we collect is limited to details such as:
- Name
- Contact details (such as email, phone number, residential address).
- We validate and verify the IP Address of the device used to place orders to ensure that the order was placed from within Australia.
Paid & Volunteer workers information.
Any paid employees for NLCC will need to share their Tax file number, together with their name, address etc.
All volunteers will need to supply your name, address, phone, next-of-kin, any illnesses.
Any Job Active peoplewill also need to supply your name, address, phone, next-of-kin, any illnesses. Any Job Active person will have their name, Job seeker ID, hours needed which is shared from their job placement provider together will the volunteer information.
Employment, volunteer & Job Active information is kept confidential by both NLCC & the Job Provider and is used only for this purpose only.
Use and disclosure of personal information.
Generally, we will only use or disclose your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected. We will notify you of that purpose at the time we collect the information.
We will only use and disclose your information where the use or disclosure is lawful.
NLCC website is secured, and all information is encrypted when entered on the website.
All paperwork containing personal information is kept in securely at all times.
Potential accidental or unauthorised use or disclosure of information, including personal information is also covered by and current and former employees/volunteers/Job active members are generally covered by the Crimes Act 1914 (Cth) which provides for criminal penalties for unauthorised disclosure of official information.
The Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth) provides for similar penalties if former workers dishonestly use official information gained during their time with NLCC to benefit themselves or others or to cause harm to another person.
Storage and data security
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure by ensuring the following:
All paperwork with this information is collected and stores in a secure office and in locked cabinets.
Our website (where most of the information is obtained) as previously mentioned is secure and all information is encrypted.
NLCC premises is under 24hr surveillance and access is only available to be accessed by approved personal, which access needs to be logged electronically.
We are committed to monitoring, maintaining and improving the quality of our products and services and in the event that we become aware that date we hold is inaccurate, out of date, misleading or incorrect, we will take proactive steps to correct the information.
Access your personal information
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you which does not attract any charges.
You can make your request by contacting NLCC by email to admin@newlife.org.au.
You will need to include the following details in your request:
- That you re making a request for access to the personal information we hold about you under the Privacy Act.
- Your full name, date of birth and contact details (phone number, address, or email address that we will have on our systems). We need to ask this information so that we can verity your identity.
- An address (email or postal) that you would like the information you have requested forwarded to.
- Phone number contact so that you can speak with you if we need any further information regarding your request.
- Any relevant details regarding the information you are requesting.
NLCC will respond to your request with 30 calendar days from the date of request.
There may be cases is which we refuse to access your personal details, if we make this decision to refuse access in the manner you have requested, we will send a written notice to the address you have provided to us, outlining the reasons for refusal.
You may then also request access to information we hold about you under the Freedom of Information Act 1982.
Correction of personal information
You can make a request for us to correct personal information we hold about you where you believe that the information is out of date, inaccurate, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading. You can make these changes by contacting NLCC via our website, or by post to NLCC 16 Dunkirk Close, Arundel Qld 4214.
This policy will be reviewed bi-yearly unless required earlier.
